Yumiko (Yumi) Bonnardeaux joined PbS as Director of Development and Communications in January 2021. For over 13 years, she has worked with corporate, government, industry and nonprofits to develop and execute strategic communications and marketing campaigns across diverse sectors including engineering, health and education. In 2020, she and her family moved from Australia to Boston, where she joined PbS’ team inspired by their commitment and efforts to deliver better outcomes for youths and families connected to the juvenile justice system.
Reentry – The Importance of Hearing From Young People
PbS shares youths’ voices for National Reentry Week.
April 26-30 is National Reentry Week, placing special focus on the importance of reentry and supporting and preparing young people to start afresh successfully and fulfil their potential. PbS added the voices of young people leaving facilities during 2020 to the discussion and showed the importance of hearing directly from them about their readiness and preparation for reentry.
This week the National Reentry Resource Center in partnership with the Second Chance Act technical assistance providers, presented a series of live webinars to educate and raise awareness about reentry. As part of the program PbS Executive Director Kim Godfrey Lovett presented: "Putting Research into Practice: Giving Youths Real Second Chances," an overview of PbS’ findings from our 2020 Youth Reentry Survey, which asks young people critical information about their perceptions, feelings, beliefs and thoughts on reentry. The survey was developed as part of a cooperative agreement with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to develop national reentry standards. Watch the webinar here.
